About the Author
Monique Doran, born in Kingston Jamaica, September 16th 1985, migrated to the United States in the late 90’s after overcoming battles of child abuse. Always having a passion for writing, after graduating St John’s University 2012, decided to become a published author in 2016, publishing her first book, ‘Daddy, don’t touch me there.’ One woman’s story of survival. She is passionate about helping broken people; particularly children, find their voices once more. She an avid nature lover, and enjoys the simple things in life.

Enjoyed the book and I will definitely used your story as an important tool to enlighten others who have been abused or are being abused that the guilt trip that the abuser sends them on is never worth it and that they should always speak out.

I knew we became friends for a reason because I was U and u were me!

We had been friends since we were 15, tho we lost touch with each other we would still hail each other in passing whenever we saw each other. Little did I know we shared the same story, except ur perpetrator was ur dad but mine was my uncle my aunt's husband. I read ur book and cried like a baby when I remember what had happened to me and heard my aunt utter the same words ur mother did, "sweep in under the rug and not tell anyone else as if it never happened". I never wrote a book or spoke too much about it but I glad U did. If u ever need assistance with ur project in Jamaica I'm here. Thanks again for sharing ur story because it will help at least one little Monique out there somewhere looking for her Ray of Hope.

About the Author
Patrick Luyten, PhD, is Associate Professor in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, University of Leuven; Reader in the Research Department of Clinical, Educational, and Health Psychology, University College London; and Visiting Professor at the Yale Child Study Center. His research focuses on the role of personality, stress, and interpersonal processes in depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, and fibromyalgia. He is also currently involved in studies on mentalization-based treatment of patients with borderline personality disorder. Dr. Luyten serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals and is a recipient of the Psychoanalytic Research Exceptional Contribution Award from the International Psychoanalytical Association. He also maintains a private practice.

Linda C. Mayes, MD, is the Arnold Gesell Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology in the Yale Child Study Center and Special Advisor to the Dean, Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Mayes’s research integrates perspectives from child development, behavioral neuroscience, psychophysiology and neurobiology, developmental psychopathology, and neurobehavioral teratology. Her work focuses on stress-response and regulatory mechanisms in young children at both biological and psychosocial risk. She also focuses on how adults transition to parenthood and the basic neural circuitry of early parent-infant attachment. She and her colleagues have developed a series of interventions for parents, including Minding the Baby, an intensive home-based program, and Discover Together, a program to enhance community and family resilience.

Peter Fonagy, OBE, FMedSci, FBA, PhD, is Freud Memorial Professor of Psychoanalysis and Head of the Research Department of Clinical, Educational, and Health Psychology, University College London; Chief Executive of the Anna Freud Centre; Consultant to the Child and Family Program at the Menninger Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Baylor College of Medicine; and Visiting Professor at Yale, Harvard, and Emory Medical Schools. Dr. Fonagy's clinical interests center on early attachment relationships, social cognition, borderline personality disorder, and violence. With collaborators in the United Kingdom and United States, he co-developed an innovative research-based dynamic therapeutic approach, mentalization-based treatment. He has published more than 400 scientific papers, 250 chapters, and 17 books.

Mary Target, MSc, PhD, is Professor of Psychoanalysis in the Research Department of Clinical, Educational, and Health Psychology, University College London; Clinical Professor at Yale Medical School; and Visiting Professor at the University of Vienna. She has held several leadership positions in psychology and psychoanalytic organizations. She has a half-time psychoanalytic practice, with clinical interests in early attachment relationships, personality disorders, and disturbances of adult attachment and social cognition. Dr. Target's research interests include child and adult attachment and mentalization, treatment outcomes in children and adolescents, and the development and evaluation of models of psychotherapy. She has published more than 100 scientific papers and 11 books in collaboration, many with Peter Fonagy.

Sidney J. Blatt, PhD, until his death in 2014, was Professor Emeritus in the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at Yale University. He was a Life Member of the Western New England Institute for Psychoanalysis. Dr. Blatt published extensively in a wide range of journals in psychology, psychiatry, and psychoanalysis, and authored several books. He was a recipient of the Mary S. Sigourney Foundation Award for distinguished contributions to psychoanalysis, among other honors.

His talk comes not merely from study, but from this experience.

In the talk we learn that of those who gain enlightenment, 99% do so in the Bardo Thodol. How to do this is the subject of this book - important information for any spiritual seeker indeed!

The content of the book comes from a special study session (the Bardo Kunda) held over six hours in March 2007, plus a two hour question and answer session five days later, and followed up with a recap and meditation session focusing on the connection of Bodhicitta and the Bardo given six days later. There are also excerpts from a question and answer session held in October 2001. (Kunda is a Sanskrit word meaning "wellspring, a source of continuous supply". In the Kunda Series, meditation master Mark Griffin explains and demonstrates the nature and experience of profound subjects dealing with advanced consciousness in the human form.)
About the Author

Yogic Mystic, Mark Griffin, the founder of Hard Light Center of Awakening, was a student of Swami Muktananda of the Siddha Yoga Lineage who, in turn, was a disciple of Swami Nityananda. Griffin, who teaches in Malibu, CA, exists in states of Nirvikalpa Samadhi and identifies meditation as the core of his teaching.

He presents ancient knowledge of the various strands of Yoga dating back to the Vedas in contemporary terms, both mystical and scientific. As such, his work complements and agrees with many esoteric practices including Taoism, Tantra, Yoga, Shamanism and theoretical physics.

Mark Griffin is a Westerner who was born in the '50s in the Pacific Northwest. His childhood encompassed a usual American middle-class scenario, followed by tumultuous teen and early adult years spent in a very aggressive pursuit of higher knowledge and purpose. Mark's studies in art and music brought him to the San Francisco Bay area where he met his Guru, Swami Muktananda, in 1976.

After six years of full-time immersion in the study of meditation, Mark encountered a milestone of extreme spiritual significance-entrance into an advanced state of consciousness known as Nirvakalpa Samadhi.

Very shortly thereafter, Muktananda died. Great teachers of the Kagyu tradition came to Mark's assistance, and he received continued instruction in maturing and stabilizing his abilities in meditation from Kalu Rinpoche and Chogyam Trungpa.

Mark Griffin founded the Hard Light center of Awakening in 1989, and continues to teach in Los Angeles, California.

He presents ancient knowledge of the various strands of Yoga dating back to the Vedas in contemporary terms, both mystical and scientific. As such, his work complements and agrees with many esoteric practices including Taoism, Tantra, Yoga, Shamanism and theoretical physics.

Mark Griffin is a Westerner who was born in the '50s in the Pacific Northwest. His childhood encompassed a usual American middle-class scenario, followed by tumultuous teen and early adult years spent in a very aggressive pursuit of higher knowledge and purpose. Mark's studies in art and music brought him to the San Francisco Bay area where he met his Guru, Swami Muktananda, in 1976.

After six years of full-time immersion in the study of meditation, Mark encountered a milestone of extreme spiritual significance-entrance into an advanced state of consciousness known as Nirvakalpa Samadhi.

Very shortly thereafter, Muktananda died. Great teachers of the Kagyu tradition came to Mark's assistance, and he received continued instruction in maturing and stabilizing his abilities in meditation from Kalu Rinpoche and Chogyam Trungpa.

Mark Griffin founded the Hard Light center of Awakening in 1989, and continues to teach in Los Angeles, California.

A SERIES OF SEMI-DIALOGUES WITH THE FRENCH LITERARY PHILOSOPHER

Gilles Deleuze (1925–1995) was a French philosopher who wrote about literature, film, and fine art in addition to philosophy; he often co-wrote books with Félix Guattari. Claire Parnet is a philosopher and reporter in France who conducted these interviews.

Deleuze wrote in the Preface to the English edition of this 1977 book, “This book… aims to highlight the existence and actions of multiplicities in very different domains… It seemed to us that the great project of English and American literature was to get close to such multiplicities: it is in this literature that the question ‘What is it to write?’ has undoubtedly received the answer which is closest to life itself… This book is made up of such a collection of musings on the formations of the unconscious, on literary, scientific and political formulations… the first plan for a conversation between two people, in which one asked questions and the other replied, no longer had any value…”

The first chapter begins, “It is very hard to ‘explain oneself’---an interview, a dialogue, a conversation. Most of the time, when someone asks me a question, even one which relates to me, I see that, strictly, I don’t have anything to say… Even reflection, whether it’s alone, or between two or more, is not enough. Above all, not reflection. Objections are even worse. Every time someone puts an objection to me, I want to say: ‘OK, OK, let’s go on to something else.’ Objections have never contributed anything. It’s the same when I am asked a general question. The aim is not to answer questions, it’s to get out, to get out of it.” (Pg. 1)

He states, “When you work, you are necessarily in absolute solitude. You cannot have disciples or be part of a school. The only work is moonlighting and is clandestine. But it is an extremely populous solitude. Populated not only with dreams, phantasms or plans, but with encounters. An encounter is perhaps the same thing as a becoming, or nuptials. It is from the depth of this solitude that you can make any encounter whatsoever…” (Pg. 6)

He recalls, “I was taught by two professors… We simply plunged into Hegel, Husserl, and Heidegger; we threw ourselves… into a scholasticism worse than that of the Middle Ages. Fortunately there was Sartre. Sartre was our Outside, he was really the breath of fresh air from the backyard… Among all the Sorbonne’s probabilities, it was his unique combination which gave us the strength to tolerate the new restoration of order. And Sartre has never stopped being that, not a model, a method or an example, but a little fresh air… an intellectual who singularly changed the situation of the intellectual. It is idiotic to wonder whether Sartre was the beginning or the end of something. Like all creative things and people, he is in the middle, he grows from the middle.” (Pg. 12)

He observes, “Philosophy is shot through with the project of becoming the official language of a Pure State. The exercise of thought thus conforms to the goals of the real State, to the dominant meanings and to the requirements of the established order… Everything which belongs to a thought without image… is crushed and denounced as a nuisance.” (Pg. 13-14)

He reveals, “My encounter with Félix Guitarri changed a lot of things. Félix already had a long history of political involvement and of psychiatric work. He was not a philosopher by training, but he had a philosopher-becoming all the more for this, and many other becomings too. He never stopped. Few people have given me the impression as he did of moving at each movement; not changing, but moving in his entirety with the aid of a gesture he was making, of a word which he was saying, of a vocal sound, like a kaleidoscope forming a new combination every time.” (Pg. 16)

He observes, “In reality writing does not have its end in itself, precisely because life is not something personal. Or rather, the aim of writing is to carry life to the state of a non-personal power. In doing this it renounces any claim to territory… Why does one write? Because it is not a case of writing… To write has no other function: to be a flux which combines with other fluxes---all the minority-becomings of the world.” (Pg. 50)

He states, “There are no fluctuations of language, only regimes of signs which simultaneously combine fluxes of expression and fluxes of content, determining assemblages of desire in the latter, and assemblages of enunciation in the former, each caught up in the other. Language is never the only flux of expression; and a flux of expression is never on its own, but always related to fluxes of content determined by the regime of signs.” (Pg. 116-117)

He summarizes, “There is no general prescription. We have done with all globalizing concepts. Even concepts are hecceities, events. What is interesting about concepts like desire, or machine, or assemblage is that they only have value in their variables, and in the maximum or variables which they allow. We are not for concepts as big as hollow teeth, THE law, THE master, THE rebel. We are not here to keep the tally of the dead and the victims of history, the martyrdom of the Gulags, and to draw the conclusion that ‘The revolution is impossible, but we thinkers must think the impossible since the impossible only exists through our thought!’ It seems to us that there would never have been the tiniest Gulag if the victims had kept up the same discourse as those who weep over them today.” (Pg. 144-145)

Pre-Thousand Plateaus, Insightful Indeed!

Here, Deleuze and Parnet give very illuminating and interesting form to many of the ideas that will later be expressed w/Guattari in A Thousand Plateaus. Excellently translated and insightful-- as though one were listening to Deleuze with an acquaintance speaking of the direction of his theory in the 80's. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Lloyd Thomas, currently the chair of the Department of Economics at Kansas State University, received his BA from the University of Missouri and his Ph. D from North Western University. He has served as a visiting professor at the University of California-Berkeley, University of Delaware, and Indiana University-Bloomington. Dr. Thomas¿ research interests include empirical analysis of interest rates determination and various issues in macroeconomic policy. Recently he has been examining various aspects of inflation expectations and his work has appeared in Economic Letters, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Business Economics, and Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance.

Good basic info, but not well organized.

I bought this for an econ class I was taking and suffered through this text.

The chapters are very text heavy with examples being very long-winded.
There are not enough visual representations, and the layout leaves a lot to be desired as graphs will be on the next page forcing you to flip back and forth while reading the text to interpret the graphs.
The index doesn't have all of the references and I found myself wasting a minute here and there trying to locate specific topics while studying.

There is good info in this book and I learned a lot because I was forced to read it for a class, but I was disappointed with the overall product especially considering the cost of the book.
