A must read

This book is a must read for any student of Pakistani history. Though the book was written over thirty years ago, but its conclusion are still valid. It starts from the war of 1857 and ends with the separation of East Pakistan. It narrates the internal dynamics between different classes of Muslims (ulema, politicians, civil servants, military etc.) as well as between Muslims and Hindus. You get a fairly good idea about how the civil servants and military acquired power in Pakistan, how after part of Subcontinent that became part of Pakistan lost most of the business in the 10 weeks between June 1947 and August 1947, this void was replaced by Gujrati businessmen from South Africa and Burma. Again, a must read.

But the idea of a 'confessional' poetry that directly refers to the poet's personal experience has lead Plath-Criticism astray for many years. Critics "have discussed Plath's life and work as if they were exactly the same thing," and have drawn bizarre conclusions by assuming "that Plath's writing can be used as a reliable source for diagnosing her mental condition.". It is obvious that this kind of immediate understanding of Confessional Poetry leads nowhere. As Tracy Brain puts it, in her essay about the dangers of reading Sylvia Plath's work as an unfiltered outpour of personal experience ("Dangerous Concessions: Sylvia Plath"): How can we ever hope to distinguish the extreme diction and address that is prompted by lived events from a vividly imagined drama that is the result of an expertly assumed style? The answer is: We cannot. Still, one should not altogether ignore the context of the Confessional movement when interpreting Sylvia Plath. But how can Confessional Poetry be dealt with, without getting caught in the traps and pitfalls of a biographic reading? This essay will first try to detect the underlying principles of the so-called 'Confessional Poetry' and position it within literary history. By revealing some of the influences and conventions of Confessional Poetry it aims to uncover the deceiving strategies of this type of poetry. Very Good reading

This author does well at detailing different encounters, be it alien, supernatural or just pure strange encounters. Some of these encounters were seen by top military and top science officials as well as the general public. I have to admit I did have trouble putting this book down I found it that interesting.

A fascinating subject to take you away from the everyday mundane realities. I do not necessarily believe in each story but it does make me pause and think about it.

Phantoms and Mosters is spine tingling!

Lon Strickler’s “Phantoms and Monsters: Strange Encounters” is vast an eerie collection of first and second-hand eyewitness accounts from many around the country, detailing sightings and interactions with everything from aliens, ghosts, skinwalkers, hairy bipeds, and the unexplainable. Many of the accounts will raise the hair on your head, some will leave you questioning and skeptical, but either way, Stricker had comprised a book that will have you thrilled and wide-eyed while turning the pages.

Many reported phenomena are validated through other eyewitness accounts reporting the same sightings or occurrences in both nearby and distant locations. Many report sightings of reptilian-type aliens, alien-abductions, and odd neighbors that suddenly vanished. One of the most notable accounts dealing with abductions comes from a man who received a strange phone call at his office, telling him that his parents had disappeared, but that they were okay. The man immediately left to search for his parents at their home, only to find that it was true, they were gone. The man received another phone call telling him that one day his parents would return. To this day, they remain missing.

Strickler has chosen to leave the written accounts that were sent to him (many by email) in an unedited format. It often leaves the reader unable to recognize if many of the typographical mistakes have been made by the claimant or the copy editor. Yet, it doesn’t impede upon the book’s spine-tingling grip and fascinating content. It also adds or detracts credibility from the individual accounts, though this may be the author’s intention. Strickler leaves us with the option of assessing each account for ourselves, and to arrive at our own conclusions.

The book is five-star for its captivating quality and well comprised information. I’m anxious to read the second installment, “Phantoms and Monsters: Cryptid Encounters.”

This is a fascinating read. Its basically written to the author in the witnesses own words,usually asking for answers or if he knows what it is. If even half of these stories are true,we share a world with ghosts,demons,humanoid animal creatures and
aliens. Regardless whether you believe them or not,this book gets your imagination flowing and thinking about the possibility of what if it is true. How these people must have felt quite helpless at the time not knowing what to do,who to tell or how to get help. This author has a website and people

Good basic book for PMs

I really enjoy Fergus O'Connell's down to earth way of thinking. I am a PM and have been in the construction business for about 20 years and still get a lot of help from this book. A colleague of mine has it on his desk as his bible or reminder of what he should be doing. Not as in depth as some of the blocks of granite you can buy but still good enough to help you along.

The Audiobook:
The narator made the book even more enjoyable and I always love to listen to it
The naration was interesting and you actually learn the principles while easily listening

The Cons:
You will want more after you finish reading :D

I expected to hate the book and be lulled into a stupor

LIstened to the audiobook version of this and bought the physical edition to use as a reference. I expected to hate the book and be lulled into a stupor, yet I was very surprisingly pleased at the candor and humor with which O'Connell approaches the subject. I think anyone involved in projects (as a manager or participant or stakeholder) can benefit from a quick go-through of this book, and I will be using terms and vocabulary from the book in my management - particularly "suck it up"
