For some years I have felt the need for a book that sets out the fundamentals of fluid mechanics, written for geologists rather than engineers. The efforts to repair my own deficiencies in this respect led me along various unfamiliar paths, few of which were unrewarding. This book is the result of my journeys through the literature and as a geologist in several parts of the world. It has been written for students of geology of all ages, in the simplest terms possible, and it has one objective: to provide a basis for an understanding of the mechanical role of water in geology. It has not been written for experts in ground­ water hydrology, or specialists in the fluid aspects of structural geology: it has been written for geologists like me who are not very good mathematicians, so that we can take water better into account in our normal geological work, whatever it might be. The fundamentals apply equally to mineralization, geochemistry, and vulcanology although they have not been specifically mentioned. It has also been written for the university student of geology so that he or she may start a career with some appreciation of the importance of water, and understanding of its movement.

Hal Leonard Bass Method-Complete Edition: Books 1, 2 and 3

I have been teaching individual bass and guitar lessons for 10 years now after having taught music (band and choir) in the public school system. I'm always on the lookout for better/more thorough/more complete method books to help my students achieve their goals. I have found this method to be very thorough without being boring. The cd accompaniment tracks are great and I use them as the "test"....the students must play along with the track successfully before moving on. If you are considering this book, you are making a good choice.

Great step-by-step learning experince!

I enjoy playing drums, but when a nice bass showed up at the local pawn shop, i splurged. Afterwards, I checked out a few volumes by the "names" in bass, but found them either overly complex, or overly exhaustive in information. Ed Friedland put together the "just right" package.

First off, it does NOT depend on TAB. You start with notes. And even when TAB appears far into the book, it is not necessary as you can still play in notes. And as mentioned below, you get to play "tunes" early one, even if they are very simple. Thus, you get to build a base playing along with the band on the CD.

Everything progresses cleanly. You get pictures of fingerings, diagrams of fingerings, and (early on) numbering of the fingering of notes under the notes themselves. In other words...

This is the book you want if you don't have/can't have a teacher. It won't take you all the way there by itself, but you'll cross a few county lines on the way to the big time!

Beginning bass player

I didn't want to write a "straight out of the box" review. I wanted to actually use the book first. This book was bought back in Dec. 2010 and it is now the end of July 2011. This is by far the BEST beginner book I've seen. What I like most about the method is the fact that although it does teach you tabs, which come later in the book, it teaches you to read music. So, by the time you get to the tabs section, you really (I don't) use them. The 3 cd's that come with the book are invaluable. They really help you with your progress. I use them as a test to move on to the next level. As a side note, I'm in my early 50's and have no desire to be a rock star. I just took the bass up as a hobby. Be that as it may, whatever your goal, you can do a lot worse than this bass method book! I also HIGHLY recommend the use of stretching exercises before and after playing. You don't want to get carpal tunnel syndrome. There are some great exercises to be found on you tube. I hope this was helpful, enjoy.

If this book teaches even one solid tell, it has paid for itself five times over... Experienced poker players know that winning is about squeezing out every single advantage, especially if that advantage is not known by the other players at the table. That is why it stands to reason to absorb as much knowledge on poker tells as possible... This is not the end-all-be-all of poker tell books, but it is an essential weapon in the arsenal of any up and coming poker player. I will be eagerly looking for more to come from Cris in the future.

Besides odds, being able to read opponents is the most important aspect of playing poker. With a good enough read, one could theoretically win at the poker table without ever looking at their hand. That's why I wrote The Only 25 Poker Tells you Need to Know.

It is distracting to try and memorize 100 or more poker tells. Instead, one will find much more profit by looking at the most common and exploitable poker tells. Just as vital as the tells themselves, one must also try to uncover the motivations behind each opponent's reaction. What is the right move if your opponent is acting confident? What about comfortable? Every emotion will uncover more and more about what the state of the game really is.

When I say exploitable poker tells, I don't only mean the tells a player is most likely to run into. Sometimes the most important tell may only appear once in a game. It is in the highest stress moments that the real money is made. Even a small glimpse into the mind of an opponent at one of these all-in situations can mean the difference between the final table and 64th place.

Not horrible, not great.

While I was surprised and disappointed by the brief nature of the book, perhaps I was unfairly (or not) comparing it to books I have previously read, such as Caro's book of Poker Tells, and Navarro's contributions in "Read 'Em and Reap", which are 2 excellent and comprehensive works on the subject. Statz tries to reduce the science down to 25 basic tells, and while I understand his point of view, I don't necessarily agree. Is the entire study of body language and tells really that simple? I think not. However, I do appreciate the idea of trying to simplify and deciphering and categorizing all tells as either strength or weakness.
I did not give a poor rating, or a high rating for this book, but I think I was more than fair The bottom line is that even if there is only one small, solitary idea offered in the book that makes you money even one time at the poker table, then it is still worthwhile.
One small point I would like to make is that it would seem to me the author should at least have been able to afford a competent proof-reader...I found the numerous grammatical errors rather annoying, but I guess that's my own personal problem.
The "best" quality is that one can easily read this entire book in less than an hour, but that may or may not be such a good thing...
Overall assessment - not the best work on the subject by far, but still somewhat useful.

Statz knows his stuff!

I was a little skeptical but this book was well worth it! The author does a great job of explaining how to read "tells" and gives plenty of world life examples. I would strongly encourage anyone interested in taking their game to the next level to give "The Only 25 Poker Tells You Need To Know" a try. Like I said, Statz knows his stuff!

As an above average poke player I still found this book useful. I'm always reading to try and improve my game. I would recommend this book. Though I feel I already know most of these tips, I didn't know I know them. It's good to brush up and get some reassurance.

Taming Talia by Marie-Nicole Ryan was easy to read, well-written historical erotica novel and I read it in one sitting. Due to 188 pages it only took few hours.

Taming Talia takes you back to the end of 1880s to the area which once was Mexican where you meet a freshly widowed Natalia Montrose who get a visitor. The visitor is very handsome man who offers her financial services, but she is much more interested in his body and what his body can offer. They are caught in by a snowstorm, so he cannot leave her house and they need to work together to survive the blizzard. Keeping each other warm is not the problem, but when Natalia finds out that the handsome visitor Jared is a Pinkerton agent investigating her murdering her husband, things get complicated.

The story had an average plot, but it was overall enjoyable read with smart dialogue and captivating characters.

There was one thing though which bothered me. Love came too quickly in this novel. I am well aware, that it is fiction, but when the main character is announcing the love to another only after one night, then I find it difficult to believe. Even when you think back to the time where the novel is set, I don't think love came after having sex couple of times. It can be lust, attraction, desire, liking another person, but love? Hard to buy. It felt awkward. And it doesn't matter how good the sex is, I still dare to doubt.

If you need a solid erotic story, then Taming Talia is definitely recommended!

This yummy western takes place during the Great Blizzard of 1889, a true historical event that of course the history buff in me had to do further research on :) I am also fascinated by Pinkertons of the Old West, so this book was a complete delight for me. Talia and Jared, alone and snowbound for days, absolutely sizzle. I loved Talia's feistiness and independence, and the sexy banter between the two made me smile. Yet besides the passion these two form an unbreakable bond as they struggle to survive and face adversity and danger. A book that made this lover of westerns a very happy reader.
