A semi-retired Internist, Dr. Barton Ivey, is asked to make sense of the girl's unexplained illness by the Emergency Room physician, and he finds detective work brings some excitement and drama to his otherwise mundane retired life. When his investigation points to foul play, he brings his case to Seattle Police Detectives Warren Brand and Laura Drill. Together, they unravel the mystery which involves various witnesses and multiple suspects: suspicious parents, Jada's overprotected brother, a resentful aunt, oblivious restaurant customers and staff, a blind man and his guide dog, as well as the otherworldly mystic, Madame Zarkov.

Great Mystery by a New Author!

I thoroughly enjoyed this mystery story by a wonderful new Author, Arthur Israel. There were twists and turns and plenty of red herrings in the telling of the story of a young girl who dies after eating pizza with her family. Who did it and why will have you guessing up until the very end of the book!
This story is well written with captivating characters. I can't wait to see what Mr. Israel comes up with next!

I did like the story line, and the unexpected ending, but the characters really didn't appeal to me so much. No spelling, syntax or grammar errors.
Con:
Very stilted writing, and lot of tedious descriptions that did not contribute to the story line at all.
Grammatically correct but reads as if English is not the author's first language. Very stiff dialogue.Some editing would have helped to make this book more enjoyable.

This book describes the controlling of the stickiness and product recovery by controlling the temperature difference between product temperature and Tg during the spray drying process of foods. It consits of fundamental studies of Tg with new informations such as complete melting temperature, contribution of structural relaxation, solid-solid interaction, effect of the melting rate on thermal history and the prediction of multi-component food models which are useful for process modeling. A mathematical model to illustrate the dynamic stickiness behavior of sticky products in relation to inlet variables of the spray drying process is developed. It is used to find a set of inlet variables to minimize the stickiness in spray drying of sugar-rich foods.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

This book is a serviceable resource for anyone seeking this certification – but there’s some room for improvement.
The good news is that the material is comprehensive. There are approximately 200 multiple-choice type questions designed to test the same concepts that are addressed in the real exam. The layout is basic, but user-friendly. The correct answers and a description of why they are correct immediately follow each question and set of choices. That’s good because it encourages prospective candidates to identify and learn the concept, rather than just “studying to the test.”
However, this setup also has its drawbacks. Specifically, it could encourage some candidates to simply skim through the material in search of the correct answers instead of trying to determine the correct answer on their own.
But if your sole purpose is to clear the certification, then this is where the book scores!!

Miller served with the Army in Vietnam from 1966 to '72, winning the Medal of Honor and six Purple Hearts. Writing with Army captain Kureth he here discusses the attractions of combat: "I loved it. I couldn't get enough." Miller is aggressively outspoken and repugnant about the business of killing ("Genuine killers are not to be confused with guys who simply spray the area and happen to kill someone") and objectionably recalls that he nearly murdered his Vietnamese girlfriend for no particular reason ("To this day I'm not sure why I wanted to kill her"). After his Medal of Honor exploit his superiors consigned him to a psychiatric ward purportedly in order to remove him from the combat zone. Miller found peacetime duty almost unendurable ("My extensive combat skills and ass-kicking abilities were no longer needed") but recovered his morale as an infantry instructor. He is still on active duty with the Army.

The Special Operations Group (SOG), a small unit that operated behind enemy lines during the Vietnam War, has gotten remarkably little historical examination. This memoir by Congressional Medal of Honor-winner Miller describes some of the actions of this unusual unit. Miller was sent to Vietnam in 1966, and once he discovered he was very good at combat, managed to remain there until 1972 when his status as a recipient of the nation's highest military medal (and hence a soldier to be protected from further hazardous duty) forced him back to the States. His exploits are disturbingly and vividly told, with the frank language and gruesome detail that is common to descriptions of close combat; there is an especially harrowing description of the action that got him the Medal of Honor. For students of the war there are many glimpses into the workings of the SOG. The book's sanguine tone somewhat mars recommending this for general readers.

This is a fantastic read. This book puts you right into the action. It also explains the day-to-day life of a soldier. There is so much to learn from reading this book.

An all time favourite.

I grew up in South East London, where Jo and her family, as well as the author, hail from.

This book (along with Through My Window and In A Minute) really capture the London of my childhood (90s).

They are lovely stories which had many years of use when I was young, and now my daughter loves them too. The illustrations are fantastic. Extremely detailed with lots to look at. These have kept my daughter captivated since she was about 13 months old. They are still regularly read now she is two and a half, and I foresee them being a firm favourite for years to come.

I would say the books are aimed at around five years and up. Really good books for children when they are learning to read.

In this story, Jo and her Mum go in to town to post a parcel to her Gran for her birthday. Jo also has some pocket money she wants to spend! They stop off at various shops on the way and Jo is tempted to spend her money. She decides to "wait and see" what to spend her money on at each stop, which is just as well as when they reach the post office her Mum has forgotten her purse. Jo gives her the money to post her Grandma's parcel. On the way home all the shop keepers reward her kind gesture by giving her produce from their shops. Which is also just as well, as the neighbour's dog has eaten the lunch Jo's Dad had lovingly prepared when they were out!

I'd recommend this book to anyone with a little bookworm!

Cute, Multicultural Book

This book is really cute. I'm always looking for books with multicultural characters to add to my daughter's library, and this one is the latest one I found. It's set in England so some of the words they use are different than what we (Americans) use and that's something else that my daughter will find interesting as she gets older (she's 2). The story is very cute and has nothing to do with race (it's a little girl deciding what she wants to do with her money) but I like that so many cultures are represented. I'd recommend this book to everyone.

About the Author
Richard Wortley is Head of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Griffith University, Brisbane. He has a PhD in psychology from Macquarie University, Sydney, and began his career as a prison psychologist in the New South Wales prison system, a position he held for nine years. It was his experience in prisons that convinced Dr Wortley of the crucial role of the immediate environment in shaping human behaviour in general and prisoner behaviour in particular. During this period he was involved in the establishment of the first unit management facility in an Australian prison (Bathurst Gaol), and the success of these units in reducing violence showed him that positive change in prison was possible. Since taking up a university position he has taught and researched in the areas of corrections and crime prevention. Recent articles have appeared in Law and Human Behaviour, the Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Crime Prevention Studies and Studies in Crime and Crime Prevention. He is currently National Chair of the Australian College of Forensic Psychologists.
