Sally J. Rogers, PhD, is Professor of Psychiatry at the MIND Institute at the University of California, Davis. She is a pioneering autism researcher known for her work on early intervention for preschoolers, imitation deficits, family interventions, and autism in infancy. With Geraldine Dawson and colleagues, Dr. Rogers developed the Early Start Denver Model, the treatment approach that is the basis for this book.

Geraldine Dawson, PhD, is Professor of Psychiatry and Director of the Duke Center for Autism and Brain Development at Duke University. She served as Founding Director of the University of Washington Autism Center. An internationally recognized autism expert with a focus on early detection, intervention, and brain plasticity in autism, Dr. Dawson is a passionate advocate for families. She is coauthor of An Early Start for Your Child with Autism and A Parent's Guide to Asperger Syndrome and High-Functioning Autism. Laurie A. My son was diagnosed with autism a couple of months ago and I didn't really know where to begin. We signed him up for therapy and we had to go to a session for parents (highly recommend any parent with an autistic child does the same). This book is great because it's aimed at parents and written in an easy-to-understand language. The first couple of chapters go through what many of us have gone through using a family's story of how their journey began and progressed. What I found unique about this book is that it really made me feel like I'm not alone and that there are people out there that get what we as parents are going through.

About the Author

Kim Flachmann teaches at the California State University, Bakersfield, where she also administers the Composition Program—from remedial English through the Graduate Teaching Assistants. She was chosen Outstanding Professor at CSUB in 1998-99. She also was Rhetorician of the Year for the Young Rhetoricians’ Conference in 2007 and was the recipient of the California Association of Teachers of English Excellence in Teaching Award in 2009. She has published numerous articles on rhetoric and American literature and has written seven textbooks—among them a college reader ( The Prose Reader (Pearson) in its eleventh edition), a series of three books for developmental English called Mosaics: Reading and Writing Sentences , Mosaics: Reading and Writing Paragraphs , and Mosaics: Reading and Writing Essays ,

Windy Dryden is an REBT therapist and Professor of Counselling at Goldsmiths College, Univesity of London. He has written numerous books, including Four Approaches to Counselling and Psychotherapy, Becoming a Psychotherapist and Adult Clinical Problems.

It works for me

I found this to be very useful and unlike most self-help books it was actually helpful.

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is basically a form of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy
and has quite a lot of evidence attesting to its efficacy.

Essentially this workbook shows you how to deal with emotional problems and then how to actually change your behaviour and thinking.

It is very practical and a step by step approach is provided in this book, though you don't have to follow it rigidly.

It does require quite a lot of work and the book can be a bit dry at times.
However the approach does make sense and you are not asked to take everything on trust but to actively deal with any doubts that you may have.

It is quite a large book and there are various worksheets that you can photocopy.
The author does have another book "Be your own CBT therapist that covers a lot of similar ground but is quite a lot cheaper than this book.

It has been around six months since I have purchased this and I have found it to be immensely useful. Most other self-help books seem to give me a little bit of positivity but then are quickly forgotten. But I am still using REBT and it has greatly lessened my procrastination and shyness as well as reduced some of my other problems.

It is not miraculous but I have found it to be genuinely helpful.

Great book for therapists, their clients, and anyone who wants to make changes in their lives

I use this book with my clients a lot, and it's something they can do on their own. I do distance counseling, so we generally don't go through the workbook together. My clients work on it and then review with me what they're learning and how helpful they think it is, and we talk about what they're getting out of it. Every client to whom I've recommended the book so far has found it helpful. People who want to make changes in their lives without going to therapy will find this an excellent resource as well, and it's very user-friendly.

this is a good reference and travel book for the state of west bengal. It has nice pictures and covers the entire spectrum of bengali culture. I was looking for a pictorial book on west bengal and this has quenched my thirst for the time being. About the Author
Bruce Warren taught photography at the college-level for more than 25 years. His participation in the Fulbright Teacher Exchange program took him to the London College of Printing in England. Warren earned a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Ohio University and his work has been exhibited at galleries throughout the U.S.

Glad I Bought it Instead of Renting

I was required to get this book for class, and given the option to either buy it or rent it for half the cost. I'm really glad that I bought it though, because it has just about everything you need to get started with digital photography. It has step by step instructions, high quality images that show you what it's talking about, and lots of useful information for any photographer-especially a new one! I'm just glad I get to keep it.

Great book.

I got the kindle version, very handy to bring along with when you are shooting and to class. The only disadvantage is when the instructor says to flip to a certain page number. It's hard to determine exactly what page it is at first. It is a good guide so far, easy to understand.

About the Author

James M. Rubenstein received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1975. He is Professor of Geography at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, where he teaches urban and human geography, and where he helped develop the new Sustainability co-major in the Institute for the Environment & Sustainability.

 

In addition to The Cultural Landscape , he is also the author of Pearson’s Contemporary Human Geography , Second Edition and Introduction to Contemporary Geography . He is often invited to give talks and presentations at colleges, high schools, and professional meetings.  Rubenstein works as a regional consultant for the Chicago Federal Reserve Bank and he conducts research in the automotive industry. He is often interviewed by the media on automotive and economic issues, and has published three books on the subject: The Changing U.S. Auto Industry: A Geographical Analysis (Routledge); Making and Selling Cars: Innovation and Change in the U.S. Auto Industry (The Johns Hopkins University Press); and Who Really Made Your Car? Restructuring and Geographic Change in the Auto Industry (W.E. Upjohn Institute, with Thomas Klier).

 

He is a semi-amateur, semi-professional painter, and displays his work at galleries in Maryland and Ohio.

Great for AP Human Geography

Currently I am taking an AP Human Geography class in my high school and this is the book we were assigned to buy. This book has wonderful charts and pictures along with descriptions. This book goes into depth and doesn't only touch the surface. I recomend this book to AP Human Geography teachers and students!

what a wonderful contrast it would be to go into more depth ...

This book is a textbook for AP Human Geography, and as a teacher I have to say that it should be more balanced in its presentation. For example, on the chapter on Population, it compares the population policy of China (the one child policy) to that of India. It refers to China's one child policy as "successful" without mentioning that there are six million MISSING girls in China as a result of this brutal policy. It refers to India's population policy as less successful, when in fact India has a much higher respect for Faith and family. That is very concerning.

My students talked about these slanted views throughout the year, so this bias is noticed. We tried to add to the curriculum with inspriational stories which add so much when studying developing nations. For example, when studying about the World Bank and the IMF, what a wonderful contrast it would be to go into more depth on Grameen Bank, which was founded by a professor from Tennessee who realized that he could free an entire village from economic slavery - with less than a $30 investment. Thus began the success story in empowering villages -and Muhammad Yunus thus created a bank owned by the women of small villages empowering other women. Compare that to the failure rates of the IMF and the World Bank! We need textbooks that inspire with what individuals can do in this world, and to create these textbooks would modify the feeling that too many people have that the problems of the world are so great that only big government can solve them. Better textbooks would be a good place to start.

solid textbook

This text is an easy read for both the eyes and brain due to the font choice and layout. Illustrations and photographs are visually pleasing as well. I am a pseudogeography junkie with a passion for the human experience, development, and social justice issues around the globe. This text worked well in these areas of my learning experience. A social work major is responsible for the content of this review! Well Done, however, a bit on the expensive side.
